BrisbanE LEGACY
Legacy is an independent, voluntary organisation dedicated to the welfare of the widows and children of veterans of war and peacekeeping operations, and of members of the Australian Defence Force who lose their lives on hazardous service or in training for war.
This is the 'legacy' accepted by Legacy's volunteers: a promise of care for the families of Australia's veterans - past, present and future.
Today, across Australia Legacy cares for some 127,000 widows and 1900 children of veterans - from WW1 to the veterans of Australia's operations in East Timor and Afghanistan.
Redkite - supporting children through cancer
Every child and young person’s journey through cancer is unique. To give them the best chance of managing that journey positively, the whole family and each individual needs to be supported. By alleviating financial and emotional stress, and enabling children, young people, families and their support networks to develop their strengths and skills, Redkite assists the whole family to achieve that positive end.
As Australia’s leading childhood cancer support charity, Redkite (formerly known as the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children), has been helping children and young people with cancer and their families for 25 years. Redkite is there from the moment of diagnosis at the bedside, through the rigorous treatment regimes and beyond. Services provided by Redkite are not ‘nice to haves’, they are essential ‘has to haves’; helping keep families functioning both emotionally and financially. Providing stability, hope and skills for life, our services provide essential emotional, financial and educational support in hospital and community settings across Australia.
